Decorex International is just about the closest thing the home and garden industry has to a trip to Disney. It's incredibly important for lots of our clients both at the event, and watching closely to see the trends coming out of the event itself. As such it was a delight to be able to attend this week and have conversations with lots of inspiring brands and markteres. Thanks to everyone we managed to catch-up with. We’ll be back.

Your next customer is asking a robot about you right now. What's it saying? That's not a sci-fi question any more. More and more people ask AI tools which brand to buy, which product is best, and who they can trust. The answer they get back shapes their shortlist before they ever reach your website. So here's the uncomfortable bit for business leaders: you can't fix this from your website alone. AI tools build their answers from everything available about your brand, including: → Whether your content genuinely answers the questions customers are asking → Whether your expertise is clear, or buried → What credible publications and sources say about you → How consistently your brand shows up wherever people look That's why we don't treat it as just a search problem, or just a PR problem. At Boutique, our PR and search specialists work on it together. They earn coverage in the sources that matter and make sure your own content is useful and easy to understand. Meanwhile, our media and social teams build familiarity with the people you want to reach, so your name means something when it appears. All of it is tied back to your commercial goals, not to vanity metrics. Because appearing in an AI answer is only half the opportunity. Being mentioned isn't the same as being chosen. People still need a compelling reason to pick you over the brand listed next to you. That part hasn't changed. It's still about understanding your customer, knowing what makes you worth choosing, and saying it clearly everywhere they look. Discovery is changing fast. The fundamentals of being chosen haven't. We help consumer brands build that reason, wherever discovery begins.

Your channels are like a five-a-side team where nobody passes. Everyone's busy. Everyone's running. Nobody's scoring. It's one of the most common things we see with growing consumer brands. Media sits with one agency. PR sits with another. Search is in-house. Social is with a freelancer. Each one reports on its own numbers, and each one looks fine on its own. But your customers don't experience you one channel at a time. They see a TV ad. A week later they search for you. They read about you in a magazine they trust. They scroll past you on Instagram a few times. Then, eventually, they buy. Every one of those moments did a job: → TV created the demand → Search captured it → PR gave them a reason to consider you → Social kept you in their head until they were ready If those channels aren't planned together, you can't see how they're helping each other. Nor can you see where the next pound should go. That's how we work at Boutique. We start with your growth ambition and your audience, not with a channel. Then our media, PR, search and social specialists get in the same room and decide where investment will make the biggest difference. You get one clear strategy. Measurement is agreed before anything goes live, so nobody marks their own homework afterwards. And your leadership team gets what it usually wants most: a clear view of what marketing is actually doing for the business, and where the next opportunity is. Each channel has a different job. Ours is to make them add up.

Ever wondered why your agency keeps recommending the same media owners? It's a fair question, and more marketing leaders should be asking it. Many agencies belong to large holding groups. Some of those groups have commercial arrangements with media owners that can influence where spend is steered. That doesn't make every recommendation wrong. But it's worth knowing whose interests are shaping the advice you're paying for. We're Boutique, and we're independent. That means: → No group share deals steering your budget towards particular media owners → The freedom to recommend the channels that genuinely fit your audience → The confidence to challenge spend that isn't earning its place, even if it's been in the plan for years Independence also changes who you actually work with. You know the pitch where the senior team turns up, wins the work, and then disappears? That's not how we do it. You get direct access to experienced specialists who understand your commercial goals and stay close to the work long after the pitch. For your marketing team, that means a partner with real judgement, who'll help them make a strong case for investment to the rest of the business. We work across media, PR, search and social, and choose the mix that fits the opportunity in front of you, not the mix that suits our structure. Independence matters because it keeps us accountable to one group of people: the brands who appoint us. Your business sets the brief. Your growth is the point.

Front cover. Didn't even pitch it. Here's how. When a journalist comes to you with a front-cover opportunity, it's a good sign you're doing something right. It's also a reminder of what PR actually is. Good PR isn't about sending out more press releases. It's about becoming a journalist's first call. That takes a lot of work nobody sees. At Boutique, it means: → Understanding what each publication actually needs, not just what the brand wants to say → Making sure journalists know exactly what a brand can offer them → Having strong imagery ready before anyone asks for it → Knowing who can give an informed, quotable comment, and having them on standby → Being able to turn things around fast when a deadline is tight When that groundwork is done properly, opportunities start coming to you, including coverage you never pitched for. And the value now goes further than it used to. More and more consumers start their search by asking AI which brand to buy. Those tools build their answers from what credible sources say about you. The titles your customers trust are the same sources AI leans on. So every great piece of coverage now does two jobs. It puts you in front of readers today. And it shapes how AI describes and recommends your brand tomorrow. That's why our PR and search specialists work side by side: earning coverage in the publications that matter, and making sure that authority shows up wherever discovery begins. The front cover is the part everyone sees. Behind it are months of relationship-building, preparation and being genuinely useful to the people who write about your category. Now, it's also about whether your brand gets mentioned when a customer asks AI for a recommendation. That's the part we love doing.

Everyone's feeling a bit better about money. So why is nobody rushing to spend it? It's the question that keeps coming up in almost every client conversation we're having right now. Consumer confidence is moving in the right direction. But confidence and spending aren't the same thing. People can feel more positive about their finances and still think very carefully before they buy. They're comparing more. Waiting longer. Asking whether it's the right time, the right brand and the right price. For the consumer brands we work with, that gap is having a real effect on growth plans. It's changing: → How realistic the targets for the next 12 months feel → Where marketing budgets will work hardest → What customers need to hear before they commit So these are the conversations we're having with leadership teams right now: What will give your customers the confidence to spend with you? How do you make the value of choosing you impossible to miss? Where is the growth you haven't tapped yet, and what's standing in the way? The answers look different for every business. For some, it's reaching new customers who don't know them yet. For others, it's giving existing customers a sharper reason to choose them over a cheaper alternative. Sometimes it's rethinking where the investment goes altogether. That's where our media, PR, search and social specialists come in. They work together on one commercial goal, so the plan is built around your growth potential rather than around a channel. The economic backdrop is something no brand can control. How you respond to it is. We've been doing a lot of thinking on this, and the video is a taste of it.
