Per The New York Times: Employer healthcare costs have risen at higher rates, specifically over the past several years. One hidden factor? "Over the last four years, the share of working-age adults enrolled in Medicaid dropped from 15.5 percent to 13 percent, according to Commonwealth." The drop in enrollments into Medicaid is a direct factor impacting adverse selection & employer plan costs. "Enrollment in Medicaid, the federal-state program for the poor, has also been declining, although the bulk of the cuts to that program as part of Mr. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act do not take place until next year." 2027 policy changes will shift more costs & further increase the uninsured rate, especially for full-time workers previously reliant on Medicaid. The net effect will be more low-income workers turning to the company insurance for coverage. The CBO has also projected this across the next 10 years - the data tells the story. TIME recently reported on the healthcare cost increases coming in 2027: "The third comes next January, when Medicaid work-reporting requirements take effect, which CBO projects will eventually push nearly 6 million people out of coverage." This is one of the key factors for the projected rise in costs: "This fall, we expect the 160 million people who get insurance at work will see the largest increase in a generation. Next January, work-reporting requirements will start pushing millions of people off Medicaid." Employers are not being included in this story: they will bear the brunt of many of these changes in the longer term via claims & adverse selection. Source: https://lnkd.in/gHMmJrZ3
