Technical cleaning is becoming a board-level conversation. And it’s about time. For years, organisations treated equipment hygiene like a nice-to-have. A tick-box task. Something you deal with when things start breaking. But 2025 has changed the conversation. Here’s why boards are paying attention. 𝟏. 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 Every minute of downtime hits customer trust. Boards don’t want to explain outages caused by dust, heat, debris, or preventable failures. Technical cleaning is now seen as risk mitigation, not maintenance. 𝟐. 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 Modern equipment packs more power into less space. That means more heat, tighter airflow, and a lower tolerance for contamination. A thin layer of dust can create micro-faults that take down entire systems. Boards want assurance that assets won’t fail due to something avoidable. 𝟑. 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐭 Physical contamination leads to unexpected outages. Unexpected outages lead to emergency access. Emergency access leads to risk. CISOs now see cleanliness as part of operational security. 𝟒. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Boards are being held accountable for ESG outcomes. If equipment fails early because it’s dirty, that’s a preventable waste. Technical cleaning extends hardware life so organisations buy less, replace less, and landfill less. 𝟓. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 More industries are adopting external audits for physical environments. Boards don’t want to fail because airflow vents were clogged or server racks were coated in dust. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: Technical cleaning is no longer about shiny rack cabinets. It’s about uptime, safety, compliance, and asset longevity. If your board isn’t talking about this yet, they will be. We’re back with week five of our 𝗦𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗶𝘀 series — uncovering the silent intruders that threaten your data centre’s reliability, one contaminant at a time. This week’s unexpected culprit: 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 & 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐬 💩 It’s not just dust and hardware particles you need to worry about. Living and organic contaminants often go unnoticed, and once they’re inside your facility they can spread quickly, degrade air quality, and create hidden risks. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞: 🌱 Mould spores, especially in humid or poorly ventilated zones 🐜 Insect remains such as ants, flies, moths and cockroaches 🐭 Rodent droppings or nesting materials in rarely accessed spaces 🍞 Food crumbs and spills accidentally brought in by staff 🖐️ Oils and residue from human skin contact on doors, racks, and screens These biological contaminants can compromise equipment airflow, corrode sensitive components, and undermine your facility’s cleanliness standards. Left unmanaged, they create conditions where more contaminants can accumulate and spread. Our accredited Technical Cleaning Team is trained to identify, remove and prevent biological debris using specialised processes, antistatic surfactants and HEPA-filtered equipment — keeping your mission critical environment safe, compliant and running at peak performance.
