Resilience has clearly become a very topical subject at the moment. I've been reflecting on how we think about resilience, ahead of Enlit Europe 2026. The interdependency of energy networks with other vital services, such as transport, telecommunications, water and digital infrastructure, needs to be properly accounted for. As we navigate the energy transition, I argue that resilience should be viewed through a whole-system and cross-sector lens, reflecting the way it is experienced by the final consumer. This has implications for planning, regulation, investment and how innovation is incentivised. I look forward to continuing the conversation in Vienna at Enlit Europe, where I will be colleagues from Arup, and hearing how others across the sector are approaching these challenges. Expectations in the workplace have changed; the workforce now has more choice than ever, and so the environments we create must change and evolve with it. Lighting is one part of a much wider workplace system, but when considered strategically, it can help strengthen the occupier's proposition, support tenant appeal and retention, and give buildings greater flexibility to respond as needs evolve. In my article, I explore why Arup we believe lighting should be considered early in workplace and asset strategy, and how designing for experience, choice and adaptability can help avoid unnecessary redesign and replacement, while creating workplaces that remain relevant and valuable over time. Every so often its good to stop, look up from the day job and take stock. Right now, there's a huge amount to feel excited about in Energy at Arup. ⚡ 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗦 The breadth of what our teams are doing to shape a new energy system is something I'm particularly proud of. From our investor advisory work supporting Hy24 on Hynamics, to the extraordinary scale of the Great Grid Partnership with National Grid, and now the Pärnu P2X Hub in Estonia, where our teams across the UK, Europe and India are supporting FEED for a green hydrogen and e-methanol development. Alongside delivery, were also trying to help shape some of the bigger conversations around the transition. Our Gridunlocked work has looked at what sustained investment in the UK electricity grid could mean beyond the infrastructure itself, including the wider economic and employment opportunity. 👥 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘 But projects are only part of it. One of the magical things about Arup for me has always been the people. It genuinely makes it a pleasure to come to work. Recently, thats meant spending time with our global Energy leadership team, including our new Global Energy Leader John Ammentorp, and bringing colleagues together from across the region alongside our EIMEA Energy Leader Mark Neller. And there have been some more personal moments too. Hearing Joe Sumners share his career story recently genuinely gave me goosebumps. The impact he's had, the things he's helped create and the legacy he's built are an amazing reminder of what a career at Arup can become. I love seeing that continue through the next generation: people building new skills, taking on new challenges and creating opportunities for themselves across our global business. There is something quite special about being part of a genuinely global community, but one where relationships between people still really matter. 🚀 𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 And finally, there is what comes next. We're in the middle of developing our next 5 year plan for Arup, and Energy sits right at the heart of it. And the consistent question I get from our Board and Executive is: “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻?” I love that question because it starts from 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁. There's a huge amount to do. And we're going to need more brilliant people to help us do it. 💼 𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/e3-h6WbB #WeAreArup #Energy #EnergyTransition #EnergyCareers
