For the first time in my life, I can genuinely say that I look forward to work… Not only that I enjoy, but that I LOVE what I do. And yet, there were countless times along the way that I seriously thought about giving it all up. Sure I’ve had to learn, practice, and am continually growing my skills, and yet, being a play therapist has by and large come naturally to me. But being an entrepreneur… No one told me that being a therapist would mean that I’d have to learn all the ins and outs of running a business and that none of it would even matter if I couldn’t market and bring in clients. Word of mouth kept me afloat… but at what point of breaking even, or even losing money some months, do you call it quits? So I took some big swings. I invested in myself and began to learn how to market, knowing that I NEEDED to see a return on my investment and somewhat quickly. I applied for and spoke at conferences, including an international conference, even though I’d always been terrified of public speaking. And as much as I had tried to avoid having to deal with accepting insurance, I joined Alma, and both quickly and (dare I say) painlessly, built up a caseload of insurance based clients. I didn’t have to wait months to be credentialed. Or to receive pay for my sessions. I didn’t have to spend hours on the phone with insurance companies. Or submitting and resubmitting claims.
