After four decades in military and commercial aviation, I'm getting back in front of a classroom to teach Acron Aviation's leadership and training courses. They're part of their new Aviation Services offering and they're aimed at a group I know well: the people who train others and the people the regulator holds to account. I spent four decades in Royal Navy cockpits and later in the left seat of an A320 and a good deal of that time instructing, examining and assessing people. Some of the hardest questions in aviation sit away from the aircraft. Who's accountable when a safety report lands on the desk. Whether the training your crews get actually changes what they do on the ramp. How you assess someone's behaviour and then tell them about it honestly. That's the ground these three courses cover. Three courses run in November at the London Training Centre or virtual. Accountable Manager (AOC) & Nominated Person, 2 November and 23 November. One day course for prospective accountable managers and nominated persons, covering regulatory responsibilities, governance, accountability, SMS oversight and preparing for regulator interviews. Crew Resource Management Trainer, 9 to 13 November. Five days working towards CRMT qualification, covering human factors, threat and error management, facilitation skills, behavioural assessment and feedback. Training and Instructional Techniques, 16 to 18 November and 24 to 26 November. Three days for people heading into an instructor or trainer role, covering adult learning, session design, classroom management and assessment. Being good at the job only gets you part of the way. Getting a room of adults to take a difficult idea away with them, and use it, is a craft in its own right. It can be learned, which is what these courses are for and it's why we keep them small. If you're not sure which one suits your team, message me and we'll talk it through. You can see the full range of courses here: https://lnkd.in/e2nP8C6u #AviationTraining #Leadership #HumanFactors

Knowing the regulations is one thing. Knowing how to apply them when a difficult decision lands on your desk is another. For me, that’s where good aviation training needs to make a difference. That principle has shaped our Training Beyond the Flight Deck programme at Acron Aviation, and the team of expert instructors we’ve brought together to deliver it. Among them is @Captain Craig Hickson FRAeS, an Airbus A320 captain, instructor and examiner with more than four decades of military and commercial aviation experience. Craig brings expertise in Crew Resource Management and helping instructors improve how they teach, assess and develop others. Most recently, he rolled out CRM training to Centrum Air’s newly qualified instructors, building both their operational readiness and long-term resilience. Together, our team’s experience supports three connected areas: Safety: identifying hazards, managing risk, handling reports fairly and preparing flight crews and support teams to respond to medical emergencies. Training and leadership: helping technical experts become effective instructors, developing CRM trainers and supporting accountable managers and nominated persons in their responsibilities. Compliance and assurance: planning meaningful audits, understanding why non-compliance happens and making sure corrective action addresses the root cause. These areas belong together. Open reporting helps us understand what’s happening. Effective monitoring helps us identify what needs to change. Good leadership and instruction help people put that learning into practice. Our November programme brings those connections into the classroom and virtual training environment. The aim is to give people the guidance, practice and confidence to apply what they learn in their own organisations. I’d welcome a conversation about where your teams need that support.
