Love it. Fear it. Don't ignore it. AI isn't waiting for anyone's permission — and it's already finding its way into Serialization and Track & Trace. But what's actually changing? 🥊 Serialization is the backbone of a great brand protection solution. Otherwise, brand protection stays a packaging feature. 🫥 Holograms get copied. 🫥 QR codes get cloned. 🫥 Tamper labels get replaced. ✅ Follow our page for future updates and materials on Serialization. Real protection stacks layers: ☑️ Physical: holograms, color-shifting inks, tamper seals, microtext, taggants, forensic markers. ☑️ Digital: QR, Data Matrix, NFC, RFID, watermarks, GS1 Digital Link, verification portals. ☑️ Online: marketplace monitoring, image matching, seller detection, takedowns. ☑️ Serialization & Track & Trace: unique IDs, aggregation, EPCIS events, partner scans, exception detection. Each solves a different problem. Physical shows “looks real.” Digital checks “can be verified.” Online finds abuse outside the supply chain. 🥊 Serialization uniquely makes every unit accountable—giving it a trackable ID + scan history that reveals fakes via: • duplicate/invalid codes • wrong-country scans • post-dispense/export/recall activity • broken supply chain logic That’s why it becomes the backbone of a great brand protection solution.

On March 19, the EU published a methodology to define data requirements for the Digital Product Passport under the ESPR framework. This is a relevant step forward. But it does not mean companies are ready to implement DPP. ✅ Follow our page for future updates and materials on Serialization. The methodology introduces a structured approach to determine which data should be included in a DPP: • A step-by-step process to identify and prioritize data points • Criteria based on regulatory relevance, circularity impact, and feasibility • Early distinction between essential and optional data • A clear focus on what is realistically collectible 💪 In short, it defines how to think about DPP data. What is still missing: • No product-specific data requirements • No final data model or technical standard • No implementation guidance • No binding obligations 🤌 Companies now have a method, but not the rules. The current gap between regulation and reality. The EU’s recent methodology for Digital Product Passports (DPP) provides a framework for prioritizing data, but still lacks product-specific rules or technical standards. Waiting for final regulatory clarity is a major business risk because the actual bottleneck isn’t the law—it’s supply chain visibility, specifically unstructured data and blind spots beyond Tier 1 suppliers. To avoid competing with larger players for the limited pool of compliant suppliers later, businesses must treat DPP as a structural data transformation now. 🏎️ The immediate priorities are auditing data availability across all supplier tiers, migrating existing compliance records out of PDFs into structured formats, and launching pilot projects to test end-to-end data flows.
